Reptile Food

There’s a food chain for a reason: All living things must eat in order to thrive and live a healthy life. It’s your job as your pet’s caretaker to make sure he has plenty of nutritious, tasty food on hand, regardless of how unappetizing it may be to you. Reptiles have a very specific diet, and different reptiles require different types of food sources, so you have to do a bit of research before ordering your pet reptile’s food. You can also ask an experienced reptile owner for some advice as to what type of food is most recommended for your pet snake, turtle, lizard, or other interesting reptile. Regardless of the type of pet you own, Zen Pet Supplies is your one-stop shop for everything you could ever want to feed your reptilian companion.

If you’re squeamish about feeding once-living things to your pets, you’re going to need some help. It’s just a fact of life that some living things must serve as food for other, larger living things. It’s ok if you’re not thrilled with feeding insects and rodents to your reptilian pets. But you must realize that snakes and other reptiles need nourishment just like humans and other animals do, so at some point or another, you’re going to have to get over your fear of feeding your pet unless you have a generous family member willing to do this for you each and every day.

For smaller carnivorous lizards and amphibians, feeding them a varied diet that includes insects dusted with supplements, such as calcium and vitamins, helps to promote optimal health. For larger carnivorous reptiles, such as lizards and snakes, rodents provide the nourishment they need. Does that mean you have to feed your snake mice? Yes, it does. We carry food for bearded dragons and lizards that comes in a can with a lid practically identical to that of canned cat food, and we have specially formulated frog food for young and adult frogs. We have hermit crab food, turtle food and even food that provides crickets and other feeder insects a safe, clean water source and a source of calcium for gut-loading insects prior to feeding them to your reptile. If your reptile’s not eating, find out what time of day it normally eats. If you have a nocturnal pet that you’ve been feeding in the morning, he won’t eat and the reverse is true for non-nocturnal reptiles. Please check out all the reptile food at Zen Pet Supplies today and let us know if you can’t find a particular type of food.
