Keet/Canary/Finch Bird Cages

Getting your pet’s home set up is one of the most fun parts of taking care of a bird like a parakeet, canary or finch. Budgerigars (budgies) are referred to as parakeets, so you may see both references used here. They are one of the most popular species of birds (especially as pets), and many people may not even realize that they are actually little parrots. And like all parrots, budgies are extremely intelligent and require both mental and environmental enrichment, a healthy diet, a good selection of toys, and a great deal of attention and playtime. ‘Keets also have a lot of energy, so they need plenty of space to move around while they’re in their cage. You will find a number of gorgeous bird cages for parakeets, canaries and finches right here on the Zen Pet Supplies website. We carry cages in a variety of shapes and designs to suit virtually every type of home décor and individual preference.
The most important feature of a bird’s cage is the bar spacing. The spacing is so crucial because it determines how safe your pet bird is. For instance, cockatiels and budgies need ½ inch bar spacing, whereas a small parrot like a Conure requires ¾ inch spacing, and large parrots like a Macaw must have spacing of one inch between the bars. The different spacing requirements are a safety feature because birds can get their head and feet stuck in the bars. If there’s too much space between the bars, your parakeet, finch or canary could get out and find his way to the outside, and you could lose him forever. While time outside of the cage is a must for birds, you definitely want to supervise your bird’s time out of his cage so you can make sure he doesn’t get into danger by getting tangled in electrical cords, curtains, or stuck behind furniture.

We carry a number of beautiful bird cages for canaries, finches and parakeets in a variety of shapes and sizes to suit all home décor and style preferences. Be sure to check out our bird cages before your pet’s arrival because it will go much more smoothly if your feathered friend’s home is all ready for him before he gets there. As with any pet, your bird’s habitat should be ready ahead of time. This will help to eliminate stress for the both of you. Also, keep in mind that a bird is on his feet all the time, even while sleeping, so it’s important to provide a variety of perch widths to land on inside the cage. A bird’s feet need the exercise of adjusting to different widths regularly to keep the joints flexible; serious foot problems could develop if the cage for your canary, finch or parakeet is not set up properly. The bird cages available at Zen Pet Supplies are built from the highest quality materials designed to last. Whether you’re looking for something simple or something ornate, you’ll find it here in our bird cage section for canaries, finches and parakeets.
